MESOTHELIOMA: an asbestos-caused cancer
HEATH MATTERS time once again! ^_^
If you work in an environment where you are exposed to asbestos articles or asbestos dust and fibre, chances are, you might get mesothelioma. From the title, you might have surmised that mesothelioma is a form of cancer. It is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos, and in this type of cancer, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. The most common site where this develops is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity). It may also be seen in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart). Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking. If you want more information about this dreaded cancer, please visit and have a chitchat with your personal doctor.
