MESOTHELIOMA: an asbestos-caused cancer

Filed under: Health Matters, Online Finds! — cutieissa24 at 12:34 pm on Sunday, April 26, 2009

HEATH MATTERS time once again! ^_^

If you work in an environment where you are exposed to asbestos articles or asbestos dust and fibre, chances are, you might get mesothelioma. From the title, you might have surmised that mesothelioma is a form of cancer. It is almost always caused by previous exposure to asbestos, and in this type of cancer, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body’s internal organs. The most common site where this develops is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity). It may also be seen in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart). Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking. If you want more information about this dreaded cancer, please visit and have a chitchat with your personal doctor.

PinayJade and her uber-fab giveaway!

Filed under: Weblogs — cutieissa24 at 12:47 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2009  Tagged

Before anything else, I would like to confess I’m a professional blog lurker. That is, I visit a lot of blogs (even have faves that I kept coming back to) but I never bother to comment and engage the witty blog owner in a repartee. One of the blogs that I frequently lurk is PinayJade’s and I must say she’s one helluva lady! Why is that? Coz she makes jewelries and sells it on Ebay PLUS she speaks Dutch! Now, isn’t that awesome??
.
Anyway, as I said, I frequently lurk at her blog and one fateful day last March, I chanced upon her call for contest sponsors. I don’t know what came over me but I found myself telling Jade that I will sponsor $10 worth of Paypal cash for her birthday contest! I’m very kuripot (tightwad) and I don’t even spend money on myself for clothes, shoes and other kikay stuff. So what *really* came over me? Maybe Jade’s winsome smile and doe eyes!
.
So, who is PinayJade? She’s a Filipina blogger currently living in Singapore and married to a Dutch — that’s how she knew how to speak Dutch =) Last March 21, she turned a year older and decided to mark the event with an uber-fab contest where you can win $100, 200,000 EC credits and other fab prizes. So what are you waiting for? Go join! Contest ends on April 30! Oh yeah, don’t forget to greet Jade a belated happy birthday! And no, she didn’t say how old (or young) she is this year ;-)

is zeolite effective for body detox?

Filed under: Health Matters, Online Finds! — cutieissa24 at 10:04 pm on Monday, April 20, 2009

Yes, you got it right — it’s HEALTH MATTERS once again! =) Today we’ll tackle the latest body detoxifying agent that hit the market — zeolites. What is it? Zeolites are microporous, aluminosilicate minerals commonly used as commercial adsorbents. Some of the more common mineral zeolites are analcime, chabazite, clinoptilolite, heulandite, natrolite, phillipsite, and stilbite. Clinoptilolite is what’s in ZeoCleanse™.

The product claims it is made up of 100% organic zeolite powder that is the most effective at removing harmful toxins and improving your body’s ability to fight disease. Here are the other advantages of ZeoCleanse™: reduces free radicals, helps balance the bodies’ pH (acidity levels) and removes heavy metals and toxins. As it it’s still too early to say if zeolites are better than other body detox products in the market. But hey, there’s no harm in trying! Just make sure it’s all clear with your doctor okay?

Curious as a Cat: Week #165 [ Join the fun HERE! ]

1) When did you have the weakest self-confidence ever? - When I was reviewing for the medical board exam last year. It’s been one year since I had clinical 24-hr duties and I was burned out with Medicine so my self-confidence that I’ll learn something from my self-review and passing the all-important exam was at an all-time low. But with the Lord, everything just went smoothly and I’m now a licensed medical doctor =)

2) Among the people you know, who would you choose to be able to read all your thoughts? - Labsie, my husband. Coz sometimes talking to him can be such a task, LOL! Maybe if can read my mind, he’ll get it directly what I want, what I need, what I’m telling him. Hehe!

3) How old were you when you realized that other people’s families live totally differently from yours? - I knew from the start of grade school that our family was living differently coz we kept moving from one place to another. Before we could settle in a new home and have our preferred window treatments, my father’s job will take us to a new place. But I’m not complaining about it coz it made me a very flexible and adaptable person =)

4) Show and Tell. What comes to mind first when you see this picture? Or, tell a story if it reminds you of one.

What comes to my mind is “Hey, that’s me!” LOL! Right now I’m a stay-at-home wife and when I’m done with my online work and housework, I just lounge and stretch my lovely ass in our soft sofa. Yeah!! ;-)

sell yourself online!

Filed under: Money Matters, Online Finds!, Web/Tech — cutieissa24 at 12:34 pm on Sunday, April 19, 2009

Wait, this isn’t a “dirty-minded” post or something like that, LOL! In fact this is a very helpful post especially for the unemployed =) It’s no secret that with the current recession, many are being fired from their jobs. Just an hour ago, I read that Toshiba and Sony Ericsson will slash jobs =( But that’s not the worst news, this is: nobody is hiring! Or if there’s an open job available, the competition for it is very strong. Chances are, you won’t get it. So, what to do? SELL YOURSELF ONLINE!

And when I say that, I mean, your post resume online to as many job websites as possible. That way, if a company searches for someone like you, they’ll find you. And this may lead to a new job. An even better news: there’s a website that will PAY you $1 every time employers download your resume. Isn’t that awesome?? But wait, there’s more: invite friends to Resumark.com and you’ll make $0.50 each time their resumes are downloaded! Easy-peasy eh? You’ll be earning while looking for a job! ^_^

Travel Wishlist: San Diego ^_^

Filed under: Online Finds!, Travel — cutieissa24 at 11:10 am on Sunday, April 19, 2009

When I was young, one of my dream destinations was San Diego in California. For a kid, it’s a place with so many wonderful attractions like SeaWorld San Diego, Belmont amusement park, San Diego Zoo, San Diego Wild Animal Park, and my ultimate dream place: Legoland!! =) When I grew older, San Diego became more fascinating to me because of the wonderful Spanish influence on the city. You can see Spanish-inspired buildings with pretty roofs, antique exterior shutters and awesome old-world materials.

I grew up in a country colonized by Spaniards for 400 years so I have a special affinity to Spanish culture. Anyway, in San Diego are lots of historic sites like Spanish missions and Balboa Park. Even some of their hotels exude an old-world Spanish air. Love it! The geek in me is also happy that the Comic-Con is an annual event in San Diego. The city is just awesome! Comic, culture, architecture, nature and parks — perfect! ^_^

Are you a Cougar?

Filed under: Love and Dating, Online Finds! — cutieissa24 at 11:37 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2009

If you need to ask “Cougar as in animal?” then you’re definitely not the Cougar I’m referring to! If you heard of David Cook, there were rumors saying that he won American Idol because of the so-called “Cougar Vote”, besting David Archuleta’s “Tween Vote”. Anyway, if you’re a Cougar and looking to spice up your life a bit (you know what I mean! LOL), check out Cougars.net — it’s a new dating site that offers Instant messages, Audio/video chatroom, Forums, Little black book, Video profiles and a Newsfeed. And believe it or not, all these services are for FREE! Unlike other dating sites out there. Harumphh! If you’re a cougar woman dating then I you should check out Cougars.net — good luck gurl!

my new anti-aging secret ;-)

Filed under: Health Matters, Online Finds! — cutieissa24 at 3:00 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2009

What is it? Read on!

I know that women have a harsher time accepting the changes in their body as they grow older. There’s hot flashes, Dry Skin, mood swings, sagging of strategic body parts, etc, etc. These are all natural changes, yes, and you can actually do a lot of NATURAL stuff too to counteract these changes. My latest anti-aging secret, especially in fighting skin problems is GAC fruit. That’s the one pictured above. Yeah I know, the fruit’s name is kinda weird. Sort of an acronym but it really doesn’t mean anything, it’s just GAC. Hehe! Gac is a Southeast Asian fruit, a relative of the bitter gourd or ampalaya. It’s scientific name is Momordia Cochinchinemis Spreng.

Gac is also known as Baby Jackfruit, Spiny Bitter Gourd, Sweet Gourd, or Cochinchin Gourd. It is high in lycopene content – contains up to 70 times the lycopene found in tomatoes! It has also been found to contain up to 10 times the beta-carotene in carrots or sweet potatoes. The carotenoids present in Gac are bound to long-chain fatty acids so the carotenoids are said to be in a more bioavailable form. Meaning, our body can easily use it. Given that Gac is high in carotenoids and other antioxidants, it would make a great skin protector and assist in the skin’s cellular rejuvenation process. The result? A younger-looking, healthy skin! Who wouldn’t want that?? Certainly not I! =)
